20 years of expertise
We produced our first asbestos database in 1999 for a client in Hertfordshire. At the time they had a variety of problems with the previous database they were using but the main issue was that it was losing the data for whole surveys. We were asked to create a new database for them which could be used to store asbestos survey data and generate reports for their clients but above all else, it must be user friendly and reliable.
The database we developed was a desktop based system called EMP. Over the years it has proved to be extremely reliable and also had a much lower requirement for data storage space than the application it replaced. It was designed to be as user friendly as possible and the fact that a lot of thought went into the design was demonstrated in the tiny amount of training which was needed by its users.
EMP is still in use today with a large asbestos surveying company although as it is desktop and server based it has been surpassed by online systems such as Survey JEM™. The success of EMP lead to a range of asbestos surveying software applications developed for multiple clients, all with different needs and methods of working.
Extensive experience in software development
We have also developed software applications for other areas for clients from both the private and public sector. These include:

- Ventilation surveying and management
- Fire Service incident mapping and analysis
- Industrial machinery control
- Water flow simulation and analysis
- Simulation of the effects of venting on an internal gas explosion
Our three key software design principles
Our software is designed with three key principles in mind. These are that any software application should make a job easier, quicker or possible and ideally the application should provide two or more of these principles.
Too many times we have seen software applications from other suppliers which have not been designed with the end user in mind. Unfortunately software designed by programmers for programmers is all too common and leaves the end user frustrated and disappointed. We have always listened to the people who actually use our applications. If they found a particular aspect confusing then we usually redesign it rather than offer to sell them a training course.
Survey JEM™ benefits from two decades of design experience
Survey JEM™ has benefited from all the combined experience and knowledge gained while developing previous asbestos surveying applications. We have kept those aspects which have worked well and developed better solutions to common problems encountered over the years. The result is a very easy to use, efficient, robust and versatile application for reporting asbestos surveys and subsequently managing any asbestos found.
